Wednesday, 12. August 2026
Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa showed him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover whatever he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the adverse comments from others destroy his dream of being one of the best poker players on the planet.
He started competing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a teaching experience and winning wasn’t a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an immeasurable passion for poker. He states that he is learning every single day and is very humble about his success. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Although Phil has won some big tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
