Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker player on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover everything he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the detrimental comments from others destroy his goal of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.

Phil started playing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a teaching period and winning wasn’t a normal thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed many of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and a continuing passion for poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single session of poker and always aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
