Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather showed him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he could about poker. Phil would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the negative comments from others annihilate his dream of being one of the strongest poker players in the world.

He began competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a learning experience and winning was not a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an eternal passion for the game of poker. He states that he is picking up skills every day and is very humble about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making errors in each game of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a regular basis.
