Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker competitor in the world by many of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to learn whatever he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the negative comments from other people destroy his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

Phil started competing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to hard work and an eternal love for poker. Phil states that he is learning every day and is quite humble about his achievements. Phil admits to making mistakes in each session of poker and always strives to improve.

Although Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a normal basis.
