Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor on the globe by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandpa showed him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover everything he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the negative comments from other people kill his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.

Phil started competing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a common outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated a number of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an undying passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his success. He admits to making blunders in each session of poker and always strives to improve.

Although Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
