Wednesday, 30. November 2022

Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker contender in the world by many of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover anything he could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the detrimental comments from others kill his dream of being one of the greatest poker players in the world.

Phil started competing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning wasn’t a normal thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed quite a few of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s learning every day and is very humble about his achievements. Phil knows he makes blunders every single game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Although Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a normal basis.
