The Importance of Poker Position

Texas Hold’em is all about players and seating. All knowledgeable Texas Holdem enthusiasts agree that seating in no cutoff Texas Hold’em is critically essential. Playing your hole cards in late position may be much more beneficial than in starting poker spot. This is because much more information is amassed prior to acting.

i.e., I played in a $1-$2 no limit money game at a local casino. I came in holding 2, 9 unsuited on the croupier marker, just to see some fun. Flop arrived A-A-4. A player in starting spot placed a fifteen dollar wager. 2 players fold and it was now my turn to act. I really should have dropped out, but something seemed a little odd. I identified this person as a weak-tight bettor, and regularly if he held the best hand he would only check, so I called.

The turn came down with a 7, meaning it was a A-A-4-7. My competitor made another wager of $20. I debated a tiny bit, but took a chance to re-raise another $30thirty dollars over and above his $20. He dropped out and I take the cash.

Sitting at late position gives you an insight into where you stand by studying how players behave and wager. On the other hand, gamblers at starting spot may use their poker spot to check-raise the late positioned antagonists and trap them later at the end. In Hold’em, both spots, late and starting should be played carefully.
