Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker player in the world by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather showed him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the adverse feedback from others destroy his ambition of being one of the best poker players on the planet.

He started competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching opportunity and winning wasn’t a regular thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated a number of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to hard work and an eternal passion for the game of poker. He says that he is learning every day and is very abashed about his success. Phil admits to making mistakes every single game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Even though Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
