Thursday, 23. January 2020
Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender in the world by quite a few of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to learn whatever he could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the negative feedback from other people kill his dream of being one of the greatest poker players on the planet.
He began playing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a learning opportunity and winning was not a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to discipline and an eternal love for the game of poker. Phil states that he is learning every single day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. He admits to making blunders in each game of poker and always strives to improve.
Although Ivey has won some large tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
