Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker contender on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to learn everything he could about poker. He routinely would tell his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the negative comments from other people destroy his ambition of being one of the best poker players on the planet.

He started playing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning wasn’t a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an undying love for the game of poker. Phil states that he is learning every day and is quite abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes errors every single game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a normal basis.
