Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker contender in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to discover whatever he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the adverse feedback from other people destroy his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.

Phil began playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to discipline and a continuing love for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s learning every single day and is very humble about his success. Phil admits to making errors in each game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Even though Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
