Tuesday, 12. April 2016

Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker player on the planet by many of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn whatever he possibly could about poker. He routinely would tell his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not let the adverse comments from others destroy his goal of being one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

Phil started competing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning period and winning wasn’t a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an undying love for the game of poker. He says that he is picking up skills every day and is very humble about his success. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each session of poker and always aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some large tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a normal basis.
