Friday, 19. February 2016
Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender on the globe by many of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn everything he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the adverse comments from other people annihilate his goal of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.
He started playing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an undying passion for the game of poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. He knows he makes blunders every single session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
