Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender in the world by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to discover anything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the detrimental comments from others destroy his dream of being one of the greatest poker players on the planet.

Phil began playing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning period and winning was not a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated many of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an undying love for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every day and is very humble about his achievements. He knows he makes blunders every single game of poker and always aspires to get better.

Even though Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a regular basis.
