Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender in the world by quite a few of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching turning 1. His papa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover whatever he possibly could about the game. He routinely would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the adverse feedback from other people destroy his goal of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.

He started competing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed a number of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an eternal passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every single day and is quite abashed about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes errors every single session of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
