Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender in the world by most of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to pickup every little thing he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the adverse feedback from other people destroy his goal of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

He started competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated a number of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an eternal love for poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. He knows he makes errors every single session of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Even though Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a normal basis.
