Saturday, 25. October 2025
Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker competitor in the world by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching turning one. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup anything he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the negative comments from others kill his ambition of being one of the strongest poker players on the planet.
Phil began competing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a teaching experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated a number of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he is learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his success. He admits to making mistakes in each session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he likes winning money games on a normal basis.
