Saturday, 16. August 2025
Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender in the world by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to learn every little thing he could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the adverse feedback from other people destroy his ambition of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.
Phil began playing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a learning period and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated many of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing passion for poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is very abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes blunders every single game of poker and always strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a normal basis.
