Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker competitor on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to discover everything he could about the game. He routinely would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the negative feedback from other people kill his ambition of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

Phil began competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated many of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an undying passion for poker. He says that he is picking up skills every day and is quite humble about his success. Phil admits to making blunders every single game of poker and always strives to improve.

Even though Phil has won some large tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a normal basis.
