No-Limit Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa introduced him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover anything he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the detrimental comments from others destroy his dream of being one of the strongest poker players in the world.

He began competing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an undying love for poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. He admits to making blunders in each game of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Even though Phil has won some large tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
