Friday, 5. July 2024

Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching turning one. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to learn anything he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not let the detrimental feedback from other people kill his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.

He started playing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and a continuing passion for the game of poker. He states that he’s learning every single day and is very abashed about his success. Phil admits to making blunders in each session of poker and always aspires to get better.

Although Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
