Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker competitor on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching turning one. His papa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover anything he could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the adverse comments from others kill his dream of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.
Phil started playing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed many of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an undying love for poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. He knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and always strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some big tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
