Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker competitor on the globe by many of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandpa showed him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to learn every little thing he could about poker. He routinely told his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not let the detrimental comments from others kill his goal of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.

He began competing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to hard work and an eternal love for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s learning every day and is quite abashed about his achievements. He knows he makes errors every single game of poker and always strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he favors winning money games on a regular basis.
