Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker competitor on the globe by quite a few of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His papa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to pickup every little thing he possibly could about the game. He would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the negative feedback from others kill his goal of becoming one of the best poker players in the world.
Phil began playing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated a number of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an undying passion for poker. He says that he’s learning every day and is quite abashed about his achievements. He admits to making errors every single game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Although Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
