NL Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Tuesday, 5. October 2021
Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker competitor on the globe by many of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather introduced him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to pickup everything he possibly could about the game. He routinely would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the detrimental comments from other people kill his dream of being one of the best poker players in the world.
He began playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning period and winning was not a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated many of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. He states that he’s learning every single day and is very humble about his success. He knows he makes blunders in each session of poker and always strives to get better.
Even though Phil has won some large tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
