Friday, 6. March 2020
Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender in the world by most of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup whatever he could about the game. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the adverse comments from others annihilate his goal of becoming one of the best poker competitors on the planet.
He started competing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed many of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to dedication and a continuing passion for poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes errors in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
