Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker player in the world by most of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover everything he could about poker. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the detrimental comments from other people destroy his goal of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.

Phil started playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an undying love for poker. He states that he’s learning every single day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. He admits to making mistakes every single game of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some large tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
