Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker player on the planet by many of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His papa taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to discover every little thing he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the negative feedback from other people destroy his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.
He started competing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a learning period and winning wasn’t a regular thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an eternal passion for poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his success. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single session of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Even though Ivey has won some large tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
